Title: “A Block and a Half from Home”
Date: 2009 November – on-going
Description: This project is in the tradition of the kind of land art where the artist interacts with a given environment though walking and documentation. In this case the documentation will be photos posted on a blog site, and the walking will be within a block and half area surrounding THE LAND/gallery in downtown Albuquerque, NM.
Artist: Thomas Cates
Artist Statement: My interest as a land-based artist is in site-specific painting, or how to do environmental art from the point of view of a painter, as opposed to a sculptor or installation artist. The photos I will be posting will be primarily concerned with spaces, surfaces, and infrastructure viewed as foreground, middle distance, and background.
